Information we collect

MyCollegePark collects only the information needed to operate the service and support community features.

• Account information: email address, display name, account role, and security/session records.
• Content you provide: event details, photos, reviews, reports, messages, and information you choose to publish.
• Usage and security information: basic request information such as IP address may be processed temporarily for security, abuse prevention, rate limiting, and operational logs. For site traffic statistics, MyCollegePark does not store IP addresses; it stores only a one-way hash derived from a random first-party visitor identifier.
• Imported public event information: MyCollegePark may display event information obtained from public sources such as the University of Maryland and the City of College Park.

Public information

Events are designed to be discoverable. Information entered into public event fields may be visible to anyone, including people who are not signed in.

Do not put personal contact information in a public field unless you want it displayed publicly. When possible, use MyCollegePark Messages instead of publishing a personal phone number, home address, or personal email address.

How we use information

• to create and operate accounts;
• to display, search, moderate, and manage events;
• to provide messaging, likes, reviews, reports, and administrative tools;
• to prevent spam, fraud, malware, phishing, and other abuse;
• to diagnose errors, maintain backups, and improve the service.

MyCollegePark does not sell personal information.

Messages and private content

Messages are intended for the participants in a conversation and authorized administrators when access is necessary to operate, secure, investigate abuse, or support the service. Do not use MyCollegePark Messages for highly sensitive information.

Photos, links, and uploads

Uploaded files and external links may be automatically checked for unsafe file types, malware, phishing, or other security risks. Files that fail security checks may be rejected.

Cookies and sessions

MyCollegePark uses essential session cookies to keep signed-in users authenticated and to protect account actions. It also uses a first-party visitor cookie to count unique visits and page views for internal site statistics. The visitor cookie is not used for advertising, is not shared with an analytics provider, and its raw value is not stored in the analytics database. Requests that send Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control are excluded from traffic analytics.

Data retention and backups

Information may remain in active systems while an account, event, message, moderation record, or security record is needed to operate the service. Backups may retain copies for a limited period after information is changed or deleted. Security and audit records may be retained when reasonably necessary to investigate abuse or protect the service.

Third-party services and links

MyCollegePark uses map data and may link to external event, registration, organizer, university, city, or other websites. Those services have their own privacy practices, and MyCollegePark is not responsible for how third parties handle information.

Your choices

You can choose what optional information to publish in an event. You may contact the administrators about correcting or removing content associated with your account. Some records may need to be retained for security, moderation, legal, or backup purposes.

Changes to this policy

This policy may change as MyCollegePark develops. Material changes will be reflected on this page with an updated effective date.
